As we're all going through our daily lives we come in contact we ideas that don't quite sound right to us. Most prefer to think and forget quickly, but I like to write them down. Here are few reoccurring observations.
1.) "You have the experience, now get the education" - Pitt Advertisement
I'm sick of everyone saying that you need education. Maybe you need a degree if you can't get a job in your field, but if you've got experience who the hell cares about your degree? Backwards bureaucracies, that's who. Companies that have to have check marks for everyone at every level. They're trying to reduce humans to so many irrelevant statistics - don't work for them. Pitt's praying on the easily manipulated - good show.
2.) Estrogen Rising
Advertisers today target women more than men. I'm wondering what effects that has on masculinity. We're seeing men taking on many formerly female characteristics such as getting manicures, using hair products, etc. We're also seeing the degradation of masculinity such as parents telling their kids not to: play with toy guns, rough-house, physically resolve conflicts, etc. In the adult male world, we're seeing less ambition in a large segment of the population. This also comes down to the repression of masculinity. Am I on to something, or on something?
3.) Rush vs. "Eggheads"
Rush Limbaugh always says that conservatives are more rational and that the Republican Party is more intellectually minded, but in almost the same breath he complains that Obama has too many "eggheads". It seems like conservatives are really talking about "common sense" - not true rationality. This is a huge issue sense common sense is based on what common people think - which on many counterintuitive issues is just plain wrong. Jefferson actually would have agreed with this view as well - saying that he trusted farmers more than professors to run a government.
4.) Latin Mass BS
I always see this bumper sticker "I love the Latin Mass". I'm not sure who is selling these, but they probably aren't familiar with the teachings of Christianity such as: don't boast, the meek shall inherit the Earth, pride cometh before the fall, etc.
Most people (and I doubt most people with this bumper sticker) can actually understand the Latin that's spoken during the mass. It was meant originally to obscure the meaning of the various religious teachings back in the day. They would've never allowed a vernacular Bible to exist with their consent. This means these people are a form of elitist Christians - an anathema. Nice...
5.) The PC Elderly
I love when the elderly are in front of an audience and have to say something that they know to be borderline on the boundary of good taste. They're trying to be PC and considerate, but you can tell it's completely alien to them. It's a great site to behold. There are a few I can think of:
- The afterthought gender correction: "an engineer should always try his hardest... or her hardest!"
- Racial corrections: "a fellow came along who happened to be black" (was it an accident?)
6.) Prius: Mustang of the Greens
The Prius definitely fills this role. They are just as flashy in their own way - unmistakable for anything else. They are often used to display bumper stickers so much that I often wonder if the flat rear end was designed for this very purpose. It's less of an adolescent "look at me" than the Mustang, but it's really the same thing. Few greenies actually took the time to figure out that a lot of old cars get better milege without producing a new car which consumes massive amounts of energy. Get real greens - you just have the latest version of white guilt...
Hi Nick,
You seem to be drawing an interesting conclusion from reading a bumper sticker. An elitist? You seem to think you know a lot about this person and their intentions. The reality is that you know nothing at all about the person in that car at all.
Do not forget that Christians are meant to evangelize. Maybe the person in the car has done exactly what they intended, you are speaking about it and someone is defending it. The teachings of the Church are not meant to keep Catholics from speaking of their faith, as your interpretation implies.
I suspect you have a little knowledge of a little history and would like to say something that is funny. Have you done any research into why people would like to bring back the Latin Mass? Have you read what this and the last pope have said about the Latin Mass? Bashing the Catholic Church is good for a laugh, I know, ha, ha.
What do you think your "BS" says about you? Does it put you in the best of light?
It is o.k. not to post my comment as the message is intended for you...
